Episode 14 - Uncle Ulf - Wine and Ul Chemistry

Episode 14 - 'Uncle Ulf' - Wine and Ul ChemistryIf you love wine, you should look into an online or local course on 'Ul Chemistry'. This is the subject of the fourteenth episode of the television show, which will air this summer. Ul Chemistry is a course that will teach you how to make your own wine and whether or not it is what you would consider traditional, delicious, or even beautiful.Ulf, the owner of the wine shop in which Jeremy works, tells Jeremy that he can teach him about making wine. Ulf shows Jeremy how to test the grape juice to make sure it has the correct pH, then explains about a certain way of determining acidity and tannin content. He also makes Jeremy aware of the different fruits and vegetables that go well with wine. The wine that Jeremy was taught while learning how to make his own wine isn't what most people think of when they think of classic wine. The wine that Jeremy was taught was low acid and low tannin. The goal was to ensure that Jeremy learned the basic principles of fermentation and to learn about the basics of fruit and vegetables. Jeremy is shocked to learn that citrus fruits do well with wine and that red grapes are preferable over white grapes for this purpose.Jeremy is not an expert at wine making. He was unable to determine what a pH scale was and didn't understand the entire process of fermentation. Jeremy struggled to learn what the term acid hardness really meant.Jeremy's instructors tell him that he cannot come back if he does not keep up with his classes. They do offer some very helpful resources online, but if Jeremy does not take the courses as instructed, he is going to fail. They even offer classes online, which is good for anyone who cannot attend an actual class. Jeremy finally learns that wine has different qualities depending on the type of grape used.Jeremy isnot sure if he should be making his own wine or using a store bought wine. Jeremy has discovered that wine made by hand, rather than using wine from a st ore bought box, will have a stronger aroma and taste. By taking an online course in 'Ul Chemistry', Jeremy is able to learn about wine tasting as well as his own understanding of how to make wine and where he stands on his own ability to taste it.During the course, Jeremy experiences some frustrations and learns that wine making is not an easy task to perform properly. Jeremy realizes that he cannot make wine to his own tastes, but he feels that the course can help him with his personal taste. He also learns that there are some things that he should not do.For those interested in taking 'Ul Chemistry' courses online, Jeremy recommends checking out Udemy.com, which offers courses on many subjects. It is also available on YouTube, which is one of the best ways to see the videos of Jeremy as he goes through the class.

San Diego College Tutor Transitioning back to college (list)

San Diego College Tutor Transitioning back to college (list) Tips from a San Diego College Tutor: Transitioning back to college (list) Tips from a San Diego College Tutor: Transitioning back to college (list) Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone was able to obtain financial aid, take classes full time and happily maintain a part-time job throughout college and still graduate in four years? This thought will make some people laugh, and others feel just plain angry. It’s getting harder to finish university studies by age 22 these days, but it’s also easier to go back to school after time away from campus. However, there are a few things returning students should consider before they make the leap back to college official. 1 Think about why you stopped attending It’s a good idea for students to think about why they stopped their studies in the first place. The most common issue is money, but there are several other reasons a student may have chosen to leave school. Think about what elements of the original issue are still in play. Is money still an issue? Is that personal or family emergency a thing of the past? Students who go back to school should be aware of what stopped them from graduating the first time around so they can avoid the same issues this time (READ: Going Back to College: A Mature Students Checklist). 2 Do you have support? Returning students may be 23, 33 or 43 meaning they might all be in different stages of life. Support can also mean different things to different people. Maybe the 43-year-old has tuition covered but they may need support from a spouse and children to understand that a lot of their free time will be spent studying. The 33-year-old may need to give up a full-time job (or find an alternative option), and the 23-year-old may struggle to make ends meet while paying hefty tuition fees. Students who have support, be it financial, emotional, or practical are more likely to be successful than students who attempt to undergo this transition completely alone. 3 Will your original degree support your career? Students are encouraged to assess their career goals at this point in their lives. If they originally studied Business Administration, and those last few credits are the only thing standing between them and a big promotion, then their original choice will probably serve them well. On the other hand, if they originally studied Anthropology, but they are now enjoying a successful career as a Real Estate Agent’s assistant, they may choose to pursue a Real Estate license over an Anthropology degree. People’s wants and needs change over time so it’s important to think about where a specific degree may lead you. 4 What educational format works best for you? Returning students may decide they can only go to school part-time or that an online format works best for them at this stage of life. Alternatively, other students will want to go back to the traditional on-campus learning experience. Prior to making another long-term commitment, it’s important for people to think about which educational format will suit their current lifestyle (READ: 5 Tips to Help You Be a Great Student Writer). 5 How many of your credits will transfer to a new university? Many students will not be able to go easily back to their original university, especially if they stopped attending classes several years ago. The best thing to do is obtain transcripts from the original university and meet with an academic counselor at potential new universities. An academic counselor will be able to tell students which credits will transfer and which courses need to be taken over again. A student may discover that one university may require two years worth of repeat courses to obtain a degree while another one may allow a student to graduate in under a year, which can make all the difference to a busy adult student. College Majors

College Majors Dear high school seniors, when you sit in a cubicle for the next 50 years of your life for nine hours a day, what do you want to do? Think about it, and let yourself know in a few years. The earlier one can declare a major the better. However, it is very important for students not to pigeon-hole themselves into majors before college even starts. Choosing a major is one of the most important decisions students can make, and they need to choose carefully. After all, it very well could be what you do every day for the next 50 years. Carefully choosing a major does not entail typing Economics Jobs into Google or asking all of ones relatives about the different college majors. Students need to see and live their majors before hastily choosing one because its Monday morning and the communications market is supposedly growing. Students should enter college with an idea of what they want for in a career. It is important to have a major; however, when youre 18, trying to figure out which video game you will enjoy more for the next month can be a tough choice. Roughly 50% of college freshmen change their majors, according to MSNBC news. Therefore, freshman year of college is more about deciding a major than building repertoire within ones major. We recommend that freshmen engage in very diverse learning programs, participating in many different extra-curricular activities and classes. Students never know what could spark their interest in a specific major. Therefore, its important for them to keep an open mind. Students should get involved in different clubs and organizations and experience different classes to see what is out there. Who knows, maybe a certain professors chicken scratch on a chalkboard is more interesting to you than another professors. Also, colleges offer a lot of classes that high schools do not. Students should participate in these classes to learn something different. Freshman year is usually the only year in which students can have a broad learning experience. Once students get further along in their college programs, classes will become more specialized. Freshmen students have the rest of their lives to learn everything there is to know about one general field. That is why freshmen should learn a little bit about everything. Your college degree should represent what you love to do and what you do best. Its a decision that should not be taken lightly. Freshman year will help one decide exactly what that degree should be. Also, dont panic if youre done with your freshman year of college, and you do not have a major. There will always be time to find something you love. We encourage you to take that time.

11 Signs Youre Going to Rock Your Vocal Audition (in GIFs!)

11 Signs Youre Going to Rock Your Vocal Audition (in GIFs!) Suzy S. Even if youve picked out the perfect song to sing for your audition, its normal to feel nervous! But take a deep breath if youve got the below 11 things down pat, youre on the right track   Auditions are a fact of life for a serious singer. After all, they are the job interview for the performer! If youre wondering how to prepare for a singing audition, Im here to help you with some important  singing audition tips. Although auditions  can seem daunting, there are plenty of things you can do to feel confident. Here are 11 signs that you’re going to rock your vocal audition! 1. You are rested. True, it may be harder in this day and age to get the suggested eight hours of sleep every night, but the more quality sleep you have the night before, the better! A relaxed body means better sound, as there will be a lot less tension. 2. Your materials are together. This means your sheet music is in the right key and clearly marked for the accompanist. The pages are also back-to-back and neatly organized in a binder. If youre using sound files, they should be  easily accessible and cued up at the correct time. 3. You know your lyrics backwards and forwards! Confidence is key, and knowing that you REALLY have your songs down pat will help you soar through the audition! 4. You’ve done a good warm-up. This means at least 15  to 20  minutes or so of light vocal exercises. It’s best not to do too much more than that, as you risk tiring yourself out. Think basic lip trills, hums, and sirens you can never go wrong with those! It doesnt  needs to be anything fancy. 5. You are dressed appropriately. This means you look professional, but you are also not restricted in any way by  clothing or shoes that are too tight, which can affect your breathing and overall comfort level. Remember a comfortable body means free tone! 6. You’ve picked songs that are right for your voice type. The tessitura of each song fits you like a glove. These songs are so worked into your voice that someone could wake you up at 3am to have you sing themâ€" and you’d still sound good! That’s when you know you have the perfect audition songs for your voice. 7. The “coast is clear” meaning your throat and sinuses! You’re free of congestion and excess phlegm. This means your vocal cords will come together nicely to make beautiful sounds. Problems with congestion? Please don’t panic. Just do more lip trills and sirens! 8. You’re hydrated. This is one of the most important singing audition tips to keep in mind. There’s nothing worse than the feeling of a dry throat when you have to sing! Just make sure you didn’t over-hydrate, because that can dry out your vocal folds, too. One of my favorite things to suggest to singers is to cut an apple into quarters: this has the perfect ratio of water as well as citric acid to break up any light congestion. Its the perfect pre-audition snack! 9. You know what you’re singing about. Now this  is a biggie! Singing the right notes, rhythms, and words is essential, but what good is all of that if you aren’t connecting dramatically? Those that choose to be compelling over perfect  are almost always those that get hired! 10. You realize that the audition starts before you begin singing. This means being kind and respectful to any audition monitors, stage managers, and definitely to your accompanist, should you be working with one! You never know who has the final say in whether or not you get hired or cast. Smile, be friendly, and be prompt! Being a diva will get you nowhere. And lastly…. 11. You are prepared to have FUN. Yes, I said it. Auditions can indeed be fun. You are going to rock any vocal audition you do if you treat it like an intimate performance, rather than something you have  to do. With these singing audition tips, youll have an easier time dealing with the butterflies that try to creep up. If you are not already working with one, a voice teacher  is also essential for preparing you for your auditions.  There are so many great instructors  with backgrounds in rock, pop, musical theatre, and more. He or she can help you find the songs that fit your voice, as well as coach you further in the essentials listed above! Break a leg! Remember that auditions do get easier the more often you do them… so get out there and show them what you’ve got! Preparing for a contest or competition? Check our singing contest tips here!
